On Tuesday, September 7, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray took an aggressive stance on the issue of peddlers after a heinous incident took place in Thane a few days back. “You can't show mercy, love, forgiveness there,” said Uddhav Thackeray at the inauguration of Kopar flyover connecting Dombivali East and West.

On this occasion, CM Thackeray underlined the issue of peddlers and hinted to take strict action in the coming time.

This statement comes after Kalpita Pimple, Assistant commissioner, Thane municipal corporation, was attacked by a peddler. She was ill treated and attacked. In the attack, two fingers were cut off and her other hand and head were also severely beaten.

When the incident was brought to the notice of the Chief Minister, he called Kalpita Pimple and assured her and extended full Maharashtra Govt's support to her and firmly stood by her. He also ensured that those who attack you will be severely punished.

Uddhav Thackeray wanted to ensure the safety of the citizens by enforcing stricter laws and at the same time wanted people to abide by those laws in public interest.

“We will have to enforce the law strictly in the future. The safety of people is the responsibility of the government and so there is a need for strict action against such hawkers. It needs to be done everywhere, whether it's on a skywalk or a road, or on an even larger scale," he added.

The event was also attended by Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde, MP Shrikant Shinde, BJP MLA Ravindra Phatak, Union Minister Kapil Patil. 

Pimple, the assistant municipal commissioner (AMC) of Thane Municipal Corporation, lost three of her fingers and received head injuries when a hawker stabbed her with a knife at the Kasarvadavali junction in Thane during an anti-encroachment drive.
