Alphonso mango arrives in Mumbai market

According to sources, mangoes from the Konkan region have reportedly entered the market and is being sold at ₹1,000-1,500 a dozen.

In a piece of good news for all the mango lovers in Mumbai, in recent developments, mangoes from the Konkan region have entered the market.

Shankar Nanerkar, a farmer from Kunkeshwar in Devgad, has sent two boxes of Hapus Mango to Avinash Pansare, a trader in the fruit market. The first mango of the season is considered auspicious and as is the tradition, it is worshipped by the traders. However, the main season for Hapus or Alphonso mangoes is yet to begin.

As per reports, the prices of these mangoes has not been decided, however, two to four boxes come to the market from time to time and is usually sold at ₹1,000-1,500 a dozen. Moreover, traders across the market are confident that the market of mango which was affected last year due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, is to get a better response this time.

Back in October 2020, mangoes imported from parts of Spain and Brazil were being sold at a price of ₹3,500 to ₹4,000. Initially, five boxes of mangoes came from Spain and Brazil. Each box was sold for ₹4,000. Then came 43 boxes. These boxes were sold at a price of ₹3,600. Even though the season for mangoes commences from the months of July to August, the APMC market in Navi Mumbai had put on mangoes in the display which has caught the attention of the consumers vastly.
