Even though the season for mangoes commences from the months of July to August, the APMC market in Navi Mumbai has put on mangoes in the display which has caught the attention of the consumers vastly.

According to sources, these mangoes have been imported from parts of Spain and Brazil and they taste sweet. However, a four-kilo box is being sold at a price of ₹3,500 to ₹4,000. Initially, five boxes of mangoes came from Spain and Brazil. Each box was sold for ₹4,000. Then came 43 boxes. These boxes were sold at a price of ₹3,600.

On the other hand, with the onset of heavy rainfall in Maharashtra, the crops have been hit hard in the state creating a huge margin between the wholesale price before the monsoons and the current wholesale price.

The vegetable sellers could earlier buy cabbage and carrots at ₹50 per kg. These rates have increased by ₹30 and ₹20, respectively. Tomatoes have gone up from ₹30 to ₹40, okra from ₹60 to ₹80 and brinjal from ₹40 to ₹70 per kg. Chilli, which is available at a wholesale price of  ₹ 64 per kg, is now being sold at ₹80 per kg.

Moreover, the prices of onions had earlier gone up with them being priced at ₹100 per kg, while potatoes were being priced at ₹50 to ₹55 per kg. The loss of agricultural produce due to the rains has reduced the inflow of goods into the market. As a consequence, the vegetable prices have gone up by 30 to 40 per cent.
