Like every other year, devotees eagerly wait to get a glimpse of their favourite deity i.e. Lalbaugcha Raja, to bless them. However, this year, devotees will get to see less plastic and thermocol around their deity, as the Lalbaugcha Raja Committee has decided to use less plastic and support the state government and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) plastic ban initiative.

Coming June 23, 2018, the concerned authorities will not entertain plastic bag usage. Along with placing plastic bins in every municipal ward, the civic body will also prosecute offenders on the use of plastic bags.

Two things that attract people is the large idol and larger than life decoration. However, this year, the decoration will be eco-friendly, suggests Bollywood Art Director Nitin Chandrakant Desai.

I have been working for Lalbaughcha Raja for 10 years now. In my 33-years of career, I have created sets for various movies. But when it comes to Lalbaughcha Raja, it is different. This year, I will create an eco-friendly set which will encourage people to support the plastic ban,” Nitin Chandrakant Desai,  Bollywood Art Director.

Meanwhile, Lalbaugcha Raja Committee’s President Balasaheb Kamble said that they would try and use less thermocol and plastic and they support the plastic ban.
