Ganesh Utsav 2019: Lalbaugcha Raja Could Be Fined ₹60 Lakh

Local activist Mahesh Vengurlekar had filed a Right To Information (RTI) to seek data on the number of holes dug by the mandal. It came to light that the mandal had dug 953 trenches in 2018 alone.

Mumbai's most visited Ganpati mandal Lalbaugcha Raja seems to be in trouble as it has been fined ₹60 lakh. Every year, Lalbaugcha Raja digs several holes into the ground to erect its mandal and decorations.

Local activist Mahesh Vengurlekar had filed a Right To Information (RTI) to seek data on the number of holes dug by the mandal. It came to light that the mandal had dug 953 trenches in 2018 alone. According to the civic authorities, mandals are fined ₹2000 per hole if they don't refill it. According to the activist, Lalbaugcha Raja mandal hasn't filled any of the holes that it has dug. Contrary to the claim, Lalbaugcha Raja mandal secretary Sudhir Salvi stated that it has cleared all its dues. 

Notably, Lalbaugcha Raja had received a gold dining set from an unknown devotee which was worth ₹50 lakh.
