Starting Tuesday, April 12, load shedding has been declared in some parts of Maharashtra by MSEDCL, the state power utility firm that supplies electricity to over 2.8 crore consumers throughout the state, highlighted reports.
However, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane will not be affected this summer. On Monday, April 11, evening, officials were quoted in accounts elaborating on how the MSEDCL will not be carrying out load shedding in Bhandup-Mulund, Thane and Navi Mumbai because these vicinities have lower power distribution losses and positive recovery of bill payment in contrast other areas
The narrative added that load shedding will be done in those areas that have greater power thefts, distribution losses and poor recovery of bill payments. These reportedly include consumers residing near Kalyan areas.
Apart from this, areas of Vidarbha, Marathwada and Khandesh will also face load shedding. In urban areas where power cuts are being taken the outage will reportedly be constrained to two hours.
The load shedding is being done owing to the significant rise in demand for power in contrast to the supply which has been hit because of the domestic coal shortage. In light of this, consumers have been urged to conserve electricity.
Recently, the Maharashtra government had decided to purchase additional power from Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL) to avert load shedding as well as ensure the smooth supply of electricity.
