Kalyan Dombivli: Lockdown extended till July 31 in hotspot areas

The authorities have said that a strict lockdown will be applicable in COVID-19 hotspot areas till July 31 while in other areas the lockdown has ended on July 19.

The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has extended the lockdown in the region in view of the rising coronavirus cases. The authorities have said that a strict lockdown will be applicable in COVID-19 hotspot areas till July 31 while in other areas the lockdown has ended on July 19. 

The shops in areas which are not marked as COVID-19 hotspot will continue to be operational on the basis P1-P2 basis wherein shops on one side of the lane will remain open on odd days and those on the other side will remain open only on even days. 

Earlier, the Maharashtra government allowed the shops to remain open till 7:00 in the evening. Before, the shops were only allowed to open till 5:00 PM. 

It should be noted that the coronavirus cases in Kalyan Dombivli region were under control during May. However, in the last few days, the cases have been increasing at an alarming rate. 

Apart from Mumbai, the surrounding districts have emerged as the major COVID-19 hotspots in Maharashtra including Thane, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan Dombivli, Mira-Bhayandar and Navi Mumbai. 

As per the official data, there are more coronavirus cases in Kalyan Dombivli as compared to Thane city or Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC). With this, the areas under KDMC have emerged as a major COVID-19 hotspot in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). 

Maharashtra remains one of the worst hit-states in India due to the coronavirus outbreak with 3,10,455 COVID-19 cases while the death toll has touched 11,854. In Mumbai, the number of coronavirus cases has increased to 1,01,388 and nearly 5,714 fatalities have been reported. 

On Sunday, Maharashtra reported 9,518 fresh COVID-19 cases and 258 deaths while Kalyan Dombivli reported 475 cases taking the total number of cases in the region to 18,115.
