A group of loco pilots gathered in protest outside Kalyan Railway Station on Sunday, August 20, to seek justice for a fellow colleague. He committed suicide on August 18.

The 39-year-old assistant loco pilot resided in Kalyan (East). According to reports, the loco pilot took away his life because he was facing many challenges.

The deceased assistant loco pilot was experiencing issues related to his job. Protesters alleged that he was subjected to harassment by senior officials of the Central Railway (CR). They claimed that he was suspended for three months.

Furthermore, despite completing his course, he had not been assigned a suitable job within the railway system. Protesters asserted that senior railway officials had verbally abused their colleague. They labelled his death a murder rather than a suicide.

In contrast, the chief public relations officer (PRO) of CR denied these allegations. He said that the assistant loco pilot was not suspended but had been absent from work for three months.

According to him, the incident had no direct association with the railway authorities. He reassured that if anyone provided concrete evidence, appropriate action would be taken against those responsible.

During the protest, railway officials gave assurances to the demonstrators. Officials requested that they proceed with the final rites of the deceased assistant loco pilot. The protest concluded at 3 p.m. on the same day.

The victim was a resident of Karpewadi in Kolsewadi. On August 18, the landlord discovered him hanging and informed a friend of the victim. The victim was admitted to the Rukmani Hospital, where medical professionals declared him deceased.

Notably, no suicide note was discovered, and the Kolsewadi police filed an Accidental Death Report (ADR). The parents of the deceased were also informed about the incident. They reside in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.
