LPG cylinder blasts in Dharavi; 17 injured and five critical

As per reports, the blast was reported at 12:20pm on Sunday. Five out of the 17 injured people are said to be in a critical condition. They are being treated at Sion Hospital and have sustained burns.

A minor fire was reported in Dharavi on Sunday, August 29, 2021, in which a total of 17 people were injured. They were rushed to Sion Hospital for treatment. 

Out of the 17 people, five are said to be in critical condition due to the fire-related injuries. The list includes Sonu Jaiswal (8), Anju Gautam (28), Prem Jaiswal (32), Sataradevi Jaiswal (40), and Shaukat Ali (58). Officials have informed that their condition is critical and some of them have sustained injuries on the face. A team of doctors are working towards containing the spread of the infection.

The fire was reported in the Shahu Nagar area at 12:20pm when an LPG cylinder exploded in the shanty. Officials from the BMC were informed about the same and rescue teams rushed to the spot to tackle the crisis. 

Two fire engines and a water tanker were used to douse the fire and reports state that the cooling operation was underway. Since the fire was minor, the teams were able to extinguish it in a few minutes and the situation was brought under control. However, the disaster management team is investigating the matter.

Earlier in July 2021, six people, including a fireman, were injured in a building collapse in Mumbai’s Andheri area shortly after midnight on Wednesday, July 28. An official stated that a portion on the north side of Mehta Babu Chawl near Salami hotel in Juhu Galli crashed and the injured were rushed to the nearby Cooper Hospital.
