As per the Fisheries Department order, mechanised and motorised fishing vessels are prohibited from operating within 12 nautical miles of the Maharashtra coastline during this period. The restriction is implemented under the Maharashtra Marine Fishing Regulation Act (Amendment) 2021 and applies across the entire state coastline.
Officials said the ban is enforced during the monsoon season due to rough sea conditions caused by strong winds, heavy rainfall, and high waves, which make fishing operations dangerous. The period also allows fish populations to breed and regenerate, supporting long-term marine sustainability.
Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against any vessel violating the ban. Coastal security agencies and fisheries departments will monitor maritime activity to ensure compliance throughout the restriction period.
The Fisheries Department has appealed to all fishermen, boat owners, and crew members to follow the directive and avoid venturing into restricted waters during the ban period.
