The newly appointed ambassador of Brazil in India Kenneth H. da Nobrega called on Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais at Raj Bhavan Mumbai on Wednesday, September 27.

The Ambassador told the Governor that Brazil is keen to enhance trade and economic partnership with India and foster cooperation in the field of agriculture. Welcoming the Ambassador to Maharashtra, the Governor said Brazil is the agricultural powerhouse and a major exporter of agricultural products. He said India and Brazil can together feed the entire world. He also added that Brazil will increase cooperation with India in the fields of pesticides, seeds, biological fertilizers and since Brazil is not a traditional pulse producing country, it is keen to get cooperation from India in this field.

In this connection the Governor sought increased cooperation between agricultural universities in Maharashtra and Brazil. He said Maharashtra has 4 agricultural universities and one university of veterinary and animal sciences. He said student-exchange, faculty exchange and sharing of semesters and expertise will help students on both sides.

The state should also cooperate in football

Brazil said that most Indians remember Brazilian football greats. The Governor expressed the hope that the popularity of football in India and especially in Maharashtra is increasing and Brazil should cooperate in this field as well. The meeting was attended by Brazil's trade representative in India, Wagner Silva e Antunes, and Agriculture Adviser Angelo de Queiros Mauricio.
