The district level committees constituted to ensure the implementation of the project of installation of Closed Circuit Camera Television (CCTV) system inside all police stations across the state have recently submitted their reports to the Director General of Police's office. Installation has been done in 1082 police stations out of 1089 across Maharashtra, the report stated.

However, in the remaining seven stations, a police officer said, the installation work has not been completed due to the renovation and relocation process. The government was ordered to install cameras in all corners of stations including corridors and lock-up rooms.

A high power committee of the state government had then recommended the installation of a CCTV system. In November 2019, the state government decided to install cameras and increased the budget from INR 72.60 crore to INR 110 crore. Initially, the installation took place in 25 police stations of Mumbai.

At first, the State Information and Technology Corporation was entrusted with the responsibility of implementing the project. However, later the Director General of Police (DGP) office was asked to follow up on the project. Later, several committees were formed at the district level to ensure the implementation of the work.
