The price of petrol was at INR 109.98 per litre in Mumbai on Wednesday, whilst that of diesel was at INR 94.14 per litre, stated accounts. Fuel prices remained unaltered in India for the seventh consecutive day on Wednesday amidst the excise duty cut proclaimed by the Union and the Value Added Tax (VAT) cut by over 20 states.
It was last week that the centre had issued a cut on excise duty on the fuels, curtailing the price of petrol by INR 5 and of diesel by INR 10. Many states that were majorly ruled by the BJP and NDA decided to cut VAT on fuel, making it economical. Based on reports, certain opposition-ruled states are also joining the trend by cutting the VAT rates on petrol and diesel.
Post the reduction in prices of fuel, petrol cost has come below the INR 100-per-litre threshold in the majority of the country.
