Coronavirus Outbreak: Maharashtra government allows pre-monsoon-related works in Mumbai, Pune

In an order issued on Thursday, the Maharashtra government announced that all pre-monsoon related works and any other work permitted by the municipal commissioners of Mumbai and Pune will be allowed including the metro rail work.

The Maharashtra government has allowed the pre-monsoon-related works to be carried out in the coronavirus affected Mumbai and Pune and amended its revised lockdown guidelines for the same. 

In an order issued on Thursday, the Maharashtra government announced that all pre-monsoon related works and any other work permitted by the municipal commissioners of Mumbai and Pune will be allowed including the metro rail work. 

On April 17, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) along with the state government decided to ease the lockdown restrictions in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) regions.

The government earlier allowed sectors including agriculture, takeaway restaurants, e-commerce companies, sweet and confectionary shops, electronic supplies, courier services, to resume with limited staff, with several guidelines and clauses. 

Later, on Tuesday, the government decided to revise the guidelines and imposed a complete lockdown in MMR and PMR regions again while revoking all the above-mentioned and other relaxations. However, the pre-monsoon related works have been allowed in the cities now. 

The order stated that the attendants and caregivers of senior citizens residing in their homes will also be allowed to function under the lockdown which ends on May 3. The government has also relaxed norms for some other activities in the rest of the state provided that social distancing measures are followed. 

The supply of The essential goods will include food processing units like bread factories, milk processing plants, flour and dal mills. Moreover, the government has also provided relaxation to agriculture and horticulture while permitting facilities for export or import such as pack houses, inspection and treatment facilities for seeds and horticulture produce. 

In its order, the government has also included shops selling electric fans in relaxation provided to private and commercial establishment. 

Earlier, the Maharashtra government had announced that the industrial activities will be started in districts with zero COVID-19 cases. The government has created three divisions in the state - red, orange, green.
