State Labour Minister Vijay Deshmukh told the legislative assembly that an independent policy will soon be brought to the state for six lakh domestic workers.

He was replying to a question raised by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Bhai Girkar who said the state should take necessary steps to protect the workers working in the state.

According to the Unorganised Workers’ Social Security Act, it is mandatory that every year, the state has to register the names of the unorganised workers working in the city. However, given the complexities of this registration, many domestic female workers do not come in front for the registration.

The result of which, these workers do not receive the government’s benefits. Will the government be able to abolish yearly registration rule and do it once and for all? The question was raised by the opposition leaders.

Replying to the question, Deshmukh said, that if domestic workers are brought together in an unorganised workers section, then it will be beneficial for them. Along with this, every year, the salary will be increased and payment will be fixed as per hours. The government is also considering to form an unorganised welfare board for the welfare of domestic workers.
