Government takes strict action against shopkeepers supplying substandard food grains

In a series of measures taken by the government, ration shops in Mumbai and Thane regions were given repeated instructions to distribute quality foodgrains to the people. However, despite the efforts, Chhagan Bhujbal, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, has received complaints regarding substandard foodgrains being distributed at several ration shops in the locality.

Observing this, officials have been asked to take strict action against them under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 stating that a defect was found by the vigilance team during the thorough inspection of the quality of food grains and other matters of the shop.

After a thorough inspection of authorized ration shop no. 42 G / 298, a total consisting of 514 kg of rice, 2838 kg of wheat, 116 kg of pulses and 112 kg of pulses were seized. The total stock worth INR 1,04,287 has been seized in the case, and a case has been registered on 16/9/2020.

In another inspection at an authorized ration shop 34E/108, a total of 487 kg of rice, 09 kg of wheat and 04 kg of pulses were seized, and the stock was worth INR 18,672.05. Keeping this in mind, officials have registered a case on 11/09/2020, and strict action will also be taken against the officials responsible for this.

The government has appealed to all the public stating that if anyone is trying to distribute substandard food from the official ration shops, they can reach out to the helpline no. Contact 022-22852814 as well as e-mail id, to complain regarding the same. Through this, action can be taken against such official ration shopkeepers.
