A review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde regarding registration of non-bailable cases against the drivers of public transport service who drive recklessly and drink alcohol without licence. On the lines of Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde asked to make this law more strict. On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that strict legal action is necessary so that passengers do not die due to the negligence of the drivers.


In this meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House, Director General of Police Rajneesh Seth, Principal Secretary of Home Department, Additional Director General of Police Transport Ravindra Singhal, Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar and others were present.

Reckless and drunk and drive incidents have increased thus leading to the number of accidents killing innocent passengers. In 2021, the number of accidents due to high speed is 20,860 which claimed 9829 lives.  The meeting discussed the Home Department's proposal to make reckless driving on public roads a non-bailable offence.


Effective action is expected to be taken against the drivers in case of accident and death of passengers due to the carelessness of the drivers. For that the law should be amended in this regard. On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that those who drive without licence and those who drive after drinking alcohol should be brought under its ambit.
