Steps are being taken for early possession of the Air India building at Nariman Point and the decision to waive off all lost earnings and other penalties of Air India was taken in the Cabinet meeting held today. The meeting was presided over by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The Air India building at Nariman Point is strategically located and offers spectacular views. This building is close to the ministry and the Maharashtra government is going to buy this building for INR 1601 crore.


In this 22-storey building, 46,470 square metres of space will be available for government offices. After the fire in the ministry, many departments have been scattered to other places away from the ministry and with Air India taking possession of the building, their rental expenditure of more than INR 200 crore will be saved.

Before the purchase of this building, the unearned income and penalty payable to the State Government will be waived off so that the building can be vacated at the earliest.
