SHARES

In order to transfer the license for selling liquor, Maharashtra government on Monday issued a notice and laid new conditions stating that the permission to set up another liquor shop will not be provided if it falls within a one-kilometre range of another shop. The government has asked the current liquor shops to shift keeping in mind the newly announced distance.

Earlier, the government’s guidelines suggested the liquor shops should maintain 200-metre distance from the other liquor shops. As this happened, almost 200 national and international businessmen in Maharashtra have sought permission for transferring their permit.

Maharashtra government wants to ensure that the liquor shops are unfurled evenly and declared that the distance between two liquor shops should be one kilometre. This decision was implemented from October 3, 2019. The permission to transfer liquor shops from urban areas to rural areas has also been granted by the state government.

If the existing liquor shops shift, the owners must keep in mind to maintain around 50 to 100 metres distance from hospitals, educational institution, and religious places.
