According to the latest reports, on Monday, February 28, the Maharashtra government sought two days from the Bombay High Court to make fresh guidelines on whether to permit those unvaccinated or partially vaccinated against COVID-19 to travel by means of the local trains, enter malls and workplaces.
Earlier on February 22, the state government had told the Bombay HC that it was ready to withdraw the “illegal” circulars and standard operating procedures (SOPs) made on July 15, August 10 and 11 in 2021. These SOPs allowed only those fully vaccinated to ply by the local trains, visit malls and workplaces.
On Monday, based on accounts, the state government lawyer told the High Court that the state executive committee meeting was conducted on February 25. The lawyer added that the meeting’s minutes and the draft of new guidelines with the easing of curbs are prepared.
The government however remarked that the committee’s decision is awaiting chief secretary Debashish Chakrabarty’s signature who has been busy with meetings about the evacuation of Maharashtra students from Ukraine.
The bench responded to this by stating that because Chakrabarty was due to retire on Monday, more time should not be sought owing to the same. The state lawyer assured the court Chakrabarty will put his signature on the SEC decision on Monday but requested two more days. Therefore, the high court adjourned the hearing to Wednesday, March 2.
