The Maharashtra government will give disburse INR 50,000 ex-gratia to 25,000 COVID-19 victims’ families this week, reports stated. According to accounts, from the 1.26 lakh applications attained, the highest has been from Pune and Mumbai at 18,000 and 16,000 respectively.

With many deaths being reported in the said cities, officials from the state government stated that considerable applicants haven’t furnished adequate bank information which has hindered the disbursement procedure.

Recently, the Supreme Court had asked states to begin the disbursement soon. Based on narratives, nearly 1.41 lakh fatalities have been recorded in Maharashtra. For this, the state has allocated nearly INR 700 crore towards the disbursal.

After a delay of almost three months, the Maharashtra government initiated a website in early December for the families of COVID-19 victims to file the applications. Those families that do not have a positive RT-PCR, RAT result or COVID-19 death certificate can also attain the ex-gratia. This will be possible if the deceased succumbed within 30 days of being clinically diagnosed with coronavirus.

Additionally, committees have been appointed by the government in every district under the additional collector to look into the grievance redressal. Based on the guidelines, all the claims are to be settled within 30 days of the submission of the needed documents.
