Maharashtra has extended the scope of the district task force to enable the rehabilitation and inheritance rights of women who lost their spouses to coronavirus, by providing them with legal help, highlighted reports.

According to an account by the PTI, Yashomati Thakur, the women and child development minister stated that the district task force has a list of 16,516 women who fit the criteria. Apart from this, the authorities will also check if the widows are undergoing any domestic violence.

Moreover, on December 1, the Maharashtra government, after a delay of nearly three months, launched a website wherein the family of COVID-19 deceased patients can make an application for an ex-gratia of INR 50,000. In the first week of October, the Central government had asked all states to offer relief from their State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).

In cognizance of the instructions given by the Supreme Court, states have to offer the compensation money in 30 days of the application, narratives stated.

According to the instructions, the Maharashtra government has initiated a website (mahacovid19relief.in) in which the family can make an application for the ex-gratia amount. They will have to put in the details of the deceased members along with their Aadhar number. Additionally, one can also upload the death certificate and hospital details.

Based on accounts, families without a positive RT-PCR, RAT results and COVID-19 death certificate can attain the ex-gratia amount, if the deceased succumbed within 30 days of being clinically diagnosed with coronavirus in a hospital.
