On Monday, December 6, the Maharashtra government ordered the putting up of call centres in all the districts through the “Dastak On Phones”, an initiative to propel 98 lakh beneficiaries who have either delayed or missed their second vaccination dose, stated reports.

Whilst till December 5, Maharashtra had administered 11.84 crore doses, the second-highest in India, a mere 46.49 per cent which is 4.25 crore people of those eligible have been fully inoculated. This is below the national average of 51 per cent, highlighted accounts.

In Maharashtra, till December 4,85,46,626 beneficiaries who were administered Covishield’s first dose haven’t taken their second vaccine. On the other hand, 12,66,261 individuals post taking the first shot have missed the second one.

According to narratives, additional chief secretary, Dr Pradeep Vyas asked the districts to put up call centres. The motive is to convince those overdue for the second shot. Vyas is of the opinion that ringing up those who have missed the vaccine has been “fruitful” in certain districts.

Whilst district-wise the call-centres will be administered by Maharashtra’s IT department, frontline and healthcare workers will run the call centres. Statistics from the public health department, highlight that Pune has the highest number of beneficiaries overdue for the second jab at 13,03,815. This was followed by Mumbai at 7,28,481, mentioned reports.
