State to gradually permit yatras, fairs and other cultural events in Maharashtra

The state government of Maharashtra, for over a year and a half, did not allow fairs, trips and cultural events during the festive season. Decisions were taken by the officials due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, sharing more about the same, Cultural Affairs Minister Amit Deshmukh said the government would  allow yatras (trips) and fairs gradually in the state depending on the pandemic. Discussions are being held, however, strict guidelines are being imposed keeping the potential third COVID wave in mind.

Recently, a delegation led by the All India Marathi Tamasha Parishad (AIMTP) President Raghuveer Khedkar called on Minister Amit Deshmukh on Friday, August 27, 2021, to understand the possibilities of permitting the same. Present during the discussion were Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Tamasha Parishad Vice President Mangala Bansode, Secretary Sheshrao Gopal, Deputy Secretary Mohit Narayangaonkar, Treasurer Kiran Dhavalpurikar, Director Rajesh Sangvikar, Director Avishkar Mule, and Director Musa Inamdar.

Minister Anil Deshmukh said that the state government has taken initiative to provide financial assistance to folk artists in the state who have suffered losses during the COVID period. Cultural events have been banned for some time to prevent the risk of COVID-19, and considering the same, officials from the association have said that members associated with full time and seasonal Tamasha Phad should get financial support from the government. 

Moreover, the events across in the state should be extended by more than one hour, and yatra should be given the permission basis which people can start travelling for their programs.
