There are only 56,000 units of blood available in various blood banks in the state, and the summer vacation is likely to affect the blood collection. Therefore, keeping in mind the increasing need of blood, the State Blood Transfusion Council has appealed to organise blood donation camps.

During the summer vacation (April-May) citizens go to the village or outside the village in large numbers. This reduces the amount of blood donation. As a result, blood shortage occurs in the state. This year there is a possibility that blood will be needed in large quantities. In such a situation, only 56,708 units of blood are available in various blood banks in the state. Also, 5000 units of blood are required every day. Against this backdrop, the currently available blood is likely to last for at least 11 to 12 days.

Keeping this situation in mind, the State Blood Transfusion Council appealed that the social and religious organisations of the state should take initiative and organise blood donation camps. Blood cannot be stored in large quantities, instead emphasis is being placed on collecting blood in stages.

6,000 units of blood available in Mumbai

There are currently 6,279 units of blood stock available in Mumbai. At least 900 to 1200 units of blood are required daily in various hospitals in Mumbai. There is a possibility of lack of blood due to the next holiday period. However, a blood donation camp has been organised on April 23 through Aniruddha Bapu's sect. This time, the target has been set to collect 10,000 blood bottles.

The life of blood is 35 days

The blood collected through the camps can be used six hours after various procedures. After that the life of that blood is 35 days. If the blood is not used during this period, it is wasted. Therefore, the officials of the State Blood Transfusion Council said that emphasis is being placed on collecting blood as per the requirement
