Based on the data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Maharashtra recorded the foremost number of accidents and deaths on railways in 2020, for the second year straight, highlighted accounts.

Owing to the coronavirus pandemic that resulted in the lockdown, the rail accidents fell by half in Maharashtra. The numbers in 2019 was 6,338 and in 2020 was 2,697. The majority of the accidents on railways was owing to track crossing or falling from a running train, stated reports.

Apart from this, the numbers of road crash also fell by 21 per cent in 2020 from 57,228 in 2019 to 45,484. The state performed better than five others, logging in lesser road crashes. However, the numbers weren’t as great in categories that include road deaths, wherein it came second in India, with 12,018 fatalities, mentioned accounts.

In road accidents, the report by the NCRB elucidated that more deaths were logged in the hinterland of the state, with numbers at 8,121. This when contrasted to urban areas was 3,897 in 2020. Additionally, the report also threw light upon the fact that the majority of the perpetrators and victims of road crashes in 2020 were motorcyclists. Moreover, the majority of the road crashes were seen between 6 pm to 9 pm, elaborated narratives.
