On Friday, September 24, Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjay Pandey stated that the Maharashtra government has decided to reduce the working hours of women police personnel from 12 hours to eight hours.

While talking to reporters, DGP said: "We have implemented eight hours shift for all the women police personnel in the state. It has been reduced from 12-hour shift."

Welcoming the move, NCP leader Supriya Sule took to Twitter and thanked the state Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Home Minister Dilip Walse-Patil.

Sule, who is the daughter of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, said, "I thank chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and home minister from bottom of my heart for taking this decision."

"The Maharashtra government has decided to reduce the working hours of women police officers from 12 hours to eight hours a day. This is a really good initiative by the state government as this will help to have better coordination between family and the duties of women officers," added Sule.

Maharashtra Women and Child Welfare Minister Yashomati Thakur have also welcomed the decision. The reduction of duty by four hours has brought relief to women police, she added.

Earlier, in Nagpur, the women police force had started an eight-hour duty on an experimental basis. After that, Pune Rural Police had also announced 8-hours duty for women police. Moreover, the Amravati city police commissioner was the third to take such a decision and implement it. Finally, a decision has been taken at the state level and women police across the state will be on duty for 8 hours.
