On Monday, November 22, Maharashtra has reported its lowest daily cases and deaths since the early days of the pandemic. This comes in a likely effect of the drop in testing over the weekend, suggested experts.

Accounts stated that after nearly 70,000 tests, 656 person tested positive and eight deaths were reported.

This is the first time this year that the state has reported deaths in single digits.

The state’s daily cases are the lowest since April 30, 2020. Besides, daily deaths were the fewest since April 17, 2020, when seven casualties were reported.

Meanwhile, for the fourth time this month, Mumbai reported less than 200 cases at 174; however, the death toll rose to 4, accounting for half of the state’s eight deaths. For all of last week, the city had one or two daily deaths.

Only 24,798 tests were conducted in Mumbai due to staff holiday on Sunday, resulting in the test positivity rate rising to 0.7 per cent, states report.

In addition, the active cases are also witnessing a drop in the city along with fewer buildings sealed. There have been no containment zones, mainly in slum and slum-like areas, since mid-August, said a BMC official.

Even as the active cases dropping below 10,000 on Sunday, November 21, the Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that violation of COVID-19 protocols across all districts continued to be a concern.

Moreover, Tope also demanded booster doses for health workers and senior citizens with comorbidities.
