On Friday, medical services at state medical colleges could be hit since more than 4,000 resident doctors go on a strike, stated a report by the Times of India. According to the report, the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) stated that the state government did not give them a written guarantee that the student's tuition fees will be waived for the duration they offered their services to COVID-19 patients.

Members of MARD elaborated, however, that critical care and intensive services for COVID-19 as well as non-COVID-19 patients will continue. Apart from this, emergency and casualty services will also function uninterrupted, the routine activities, will, however, be put on hold.

Representatives of MARD added that they were offered an unofficial assurance by the state government in regards to their fees being waived since they were not educated on specializations, they had registered for during the coronavirus pandemic. The report states that till late Thursday, meetings were conducted between the representatives of MARD and the Directorate of Medical Education and Research. Apart from the above-mentioned demands, some of their other demands stated that those resident doctors studying at the city’s KEM, Sion and Nair Hospitals are being taxed on the stipend they earn.
