The warning comes after several complaints alleged that some authorised vendors were charging concession passengers more than the officially fixed rates
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has issued a strict warning to authorised vendors accused of charging excessive rates for NCMC smart cards meant for concession passengers. Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said vendors found overcharging commuters will face immediate cancellation of their licences.
The warning comes after several complaints alleged that some authorised vendors were charging concession passengers more than the officially fixed rates for National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) smart cards. MSRTC has appointed more than 3,000 authorised vendors across Maharashtra, with vendors available at every depot and major bus station.
Official NCMC Card Rates
MSRTC clarified the official pricing structure for the cards:
New NCMC smart card: INR 199
Existing smart card holders upgrading or renewing: INR 149
Sarnaik said officials have been instructed to take immediate action against vendors charging above these rates. He added that licences of some vendors have already been cancelled following complaints.
NCMC Cards to Become Mandatory for Concession Passengers
MSRTC is planning to make NCMC cards compulsory for concession-category passengers travelling on State Transport (ST) buses. Authorities have also prepared a standard operating procedure (SOP) for ticket distribution, card top-ups, and related transactions.
What is the NCMC Card?
The National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) is a digital and cashless smart card introduced to replace paper-based concession passes. The system enables automated ticketing and centralised digital records.
The Maharashtra government said the initiative is aimed at modernising ST services, increasing transparency, and making travel easier for passengers.
