Four persons have died and three other suffered critical injuries after a devastating incident occurred on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway as a chemical tanker overturned and subsequently caught fire at the Kune bridge in Khandala Ghat.

The accident resulted in a significant chemical spillage, leading to hazardous conditions on the road.

Emergency response teams swiftly arrived at the spot to provide assistance, while traffic movement was diverted from Lonavala to alleviate congestion.

The incident claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy who was riding a bike on the road below the bridge. Additionally, the boy’s parents sustained severe injuries in the accident.

The aftermath of the accident has caused a massive traffic jam, further exacerbating the situation. However, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shared that traffic has been restored on one side, and the other side will also start soon. He further exclaimed that the state government is keeping a close eye on the situation.

Moreover, their immediate focus was to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further, as well as to assess the potential environmental impact and protect nearby communities.

The intensity of the fire, fueled by the highly flammable substances inside the tanker, posed significant challenges for the emergency responders. The acid plumes of thick black smoke billowing from the site further complicated their efforts. As a precautionary measure, authorities swiftly established safety parameters and evacuated nearby residents to ensure their well-being.
