Mumbai rains are infamous for flooding the city every year and to avoid the inconvenience to the citizens, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is extensively carrying out the cleaning drive across the Nullahs in the city.

The monsoon is on its way and thus, the Mayor, Vishwanath Mahadeshwar, is reviewing the work closely, with an aim to avoid water logging or related concerns during the rains. While the BMC is working on a cleaning spree, it has been reported that the nullahs are being broken because of the metro construction and the cover of the drains have also been uprooted in this process. The Mayor has demanded the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to sought the damaged drainage lines in the city, at the earliest.

Sharing more thoughts, Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar told Mumbai Live that if Mumbai drowns after this, it will be the fault of Metro construction and not the BMC.

The cleaning process of Nullahs has been completed by 50 per cent. The Mayor is expected to inspect the cleaning of Nullahs again in ten days and if the work is not done properly, strict action will be taken against the concerned contractors.
