Mumbai - A proposal has come before the BMC standing committee to pass a bill of Rs 20.44 lakh spent to provide meals to the jawans of fire brigade who stayed put for five months to douse the fire at Deonar dumping ground. The issue is likely to be gather steam in Wednesday’s standing committee meeting. A huge fire had engulfed Deonar dumping ground on January 28 and on March 20 this year. The fire brigade officials were taking efforts to douse the fire and had stay put there for almost five months. They were provided breakfast, lunch and dinner at the dumping ground itself and the amount of Rs 20.44 lakh was spent on their meals. As this arrangement was to be done on priority basis, no tenders were called and the meal was sought from a firm Simply Delicious. But no information has been given about how many fire brigade officers and jawans were posted for the same.
