The Central government has taken a decision to start e-portal to control the illegal production and sale of medicines. The government has also initiated a process in this direction but the All Indian Chemists and Druggists Association has strongly opposed the idea of e-portal and has given a call for nation-wide bandh on May 30.

The Maharashtra unit of the association will also participate in this bandh agitation on May 30 and 8.5 lakh chemist stores in the country would down their shutter on that day, informed Anil Navandar, state general secretary of the association.

The Central government has invited objections and suggestions on e-portal. Once it gets implemented, the chemists and druggists will come under its purview and they will have to record all the details till the medicine reaches in the hands of the final consumer.
