As per reports, a committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of state chief secretary Sanjay Kumar for the recommendation of an appropriate site for the car sheds of various metro lines.

Moreover, the committee is touted to evaluate things from the point of view of the public as well as the convenience with regards to whether the Kanjurmarg plot or the Aarey plot is more appropriate for the car shed. The panel will also be asked to look afresh for alternative locations to relocate the project as the Bombay High Court earlier this month halted the car-shed construction work till February 2021.

Meanwhile, the committee includes the environment secretary, BMC commissioner, Divisional Commissioner, Konkan Division, Transport Commissioner, Maharashtra, Administrative Director, MMRC, K V Krishna Rao, professor, Centre for Urban Science and Engineering, IIT Bombay, Pramod Ahuja, Director (Works), MMRDA and Sonia Sethi, additional metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA.

Earlier on December 29, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had stated that the idea of building the Mumbai Metro-3 car shed at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) has been scrapped for now at least.

In the past, the Bombay High Court on December 16, stayed the Mumbai suburban district collector's decision allotting 102 acres of saltpan land in Kanjurmarg for the car shed, as the Union government contended that its salt department owns this land and not the state.

The BJP-led Central government and the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government are locked in a tussle over ownership of the land earmarked by the state for constructing the car shed depot which was earlier planned in Aarey Colony by the then BJP government in the state.
