CM Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, on Wednesday, December 16, faced a setback when Bombay High Court placed a stay on the Kanjur Marg Metro Car Shed project. With this order, MMRDA has been asked to stop the work on the land and wait for the orders in the future.

The department working on the project was preparing a transfer of 102 acres of land in Kanjur Marg for the proposed car shed, used for both Metro-3 and Metro-6 lines. The decision to shift the car shed project from Aarey to Kanjur Marg was announced by CM Uddhav Thackeray, in October 2020, with an aim to preserve the forest land in the city.

Besides this, the CM had announced more than 800 acres of land in Aarey as a reserve forest.

However, post the announcement, MVA faced a backlash from the opposition party and former ruling party, BJP, whereby several questions were raised regarding the same, during the winter session of the Maharashtra Legislature held recently. Responding to the same, CM stated that this development should not be politicised as it would be for the benefit of the people.
