The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation's (MBMC) animal husbandry department on Monday, June 10, withdrew a temporary permit that had been granted for the slaughtering of sacrificial animals for Eid-ul-Adha in Kashigaon.

This year, Eid-ul-Adha will be observed on June 17. The slaughtering was initially planned to take place on an open plot situated in the highly populated residential area. This location is home to people of many faiths and religions.

However, this plan was met with opposition from members of a local trust. They filed a complaint alleging that the slaughtering was a form of exploitation disguised as a religious practice. They also expressed concerns about the chances of disturbance between two communities as a result of the slaughter.

The local police were involved in the matter and provided a report to make sure there was no threat to the area's law and order.

The two-day permit was issued by the MBMC for June 17 to June 19. It allowed for the tying and killing of animals on an open plot in the Mashacha Pada neighbourhood of Kashigaon. However, Deputy Commissioner Ravi Pawar revoked this permit in response to the concerns raised.

Last year, in June, the Bombay High Court declared that cleanliness and hygiene were important and that it would not allow the unmonitored or uncontrolled killing of animals in Maharashtra. It also asked the Mumbai Police to make sure there were no religious killings in housing societies without the required permission from the authorities.
