The much-awaited Mumbai Metro Line 9 services is set for a partial launch by the end of 2025.

Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said that the metro service between Dahisar and Kashimira in Mira Road is planned for inauguration by the end of December, marking a significant milestone for the region.

He was speaking during an inspection of the Dahisar-Kashimira Metro route, accompanied by senior engineers from Maha Metro, technical consultants, and the contractor’s team.

Sarnaik said that the new Dahisar–Kashimira metro route awaits mandatory certification from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS). Once the approval is received, the state government will plan the inauguration.

“We expect that by the end of December, the route will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar,” the minister said.

Once this route opens, Mira road residents will be able to travel by metro all the way to Andheri. However, the Bhayandar residents will have to wait more to get access to the metro services.

The Dahisar–Kashimira Metro line will be extended up to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Ground by December 2026.

With this, the 14 years of prolonged wait of Mira-Bhayandar residents is likely to end.

Moreover, the work on the Vasai–Virar Metro line is also expected to begin soon. In the coming years, commuters will be able to travel from Vasai–Virar to Andheri and onwards to Colaba via the airport interchange station, Sarnaik said, expressing optimism about the metro network’s growth.

In the new year, Mira-Bhayandar residents will have convenient metro connectivity to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, the Mantralaya, and the Vidhan Bhavan in South Mumbai.
