The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has introduced a new, more convenient timetable for metro commuters starting April 8, 2026. This change aims to make travel easier, faster, and better organized.

Launch of New Metro Lines

Along with the revised schedule, two new metro lines have been launched:

  • Metro Line 9 (Dahisar East – Kashigaon)

  • Metro Line 2B (Mandale – Diamond Garden, Phase 1)

Metro Line 9 becomes the first metro service in Thane district, while Line 2B brings metro connectivity to areas along the Harbour Line.

With this expansion, Mumbai has now become the second city after Delhi to have a metro network exceeding 100 km.

Key Changes

  • Metro Line 2A and Line 7 will now operate as separate corridors

  • Line 7 and Line 9 will run in integration, providing direct connectivity from Andheri East to Kashigaon

  • Train frequency has been increased across all routes

  • Timetables have been simplified for passenger convenience

  • Easy interchange between Line 2A and Line 7 at Dahisar station

Line-wise Service

A) Metro Line 2A (Andheri West – Dahisar East)

  • First train: 5:50 AM

  • Last train: 10:35 PM to 11:00 PM

  • Peak hours: Every 6 minutes

  • Non-peak: Every 8–10 minutes

B) Metro Line 7 + Line 9 (Gundavali – Kashigaon)

  • Total length: 19.79 km

  • First train: 5:50 AM

  • Last train: 11:00 PM

  • Peak hours: Around every 6 minutes

  • Non-peak: Every 8–10 minutes

This enables direct travel from Andheri East to Kashigaon.

C) Metro Line 2B (Mandale – Diamond Garden)

  • Length: 5.38 km

  • First train: 6:00 AM

  • Last train: 10:15 PM to 10:30 PM

  • Frequency: Approximately every 9.5 minutes

This line will significantly benefit Chembur and nearby areas.

Official Statement

MMRDA Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee stated that these changes will provide a smoother, more seamless travel experience and help reduce congestion.
