Mumbai received moderate rainfall in the morning on Monday, September 14, 2020. These showers changed the climate of Mumbai as several people complained about the heat, for over a week now.

As per reports, the monsoon is expected to continue for a week across the state, and the information was confirmed by the meteorological department. In the last 24 hours, Mumbai, Thane and adjoining areas have received more than 50 mm of rainfall.

The city has also received 102.04 per cent rainfall so far, due to which several incidents were reported in many parts of Mumbai, in the last 24 hours. Data released by the officials state that trees have fallen in seven localities, and short circuits were reported in two places.

Meanwhile, the rainfall this week has brought in relief as it may not be torrential but would help in changing the weather, getting rid of the heat for a few days. IMD has issued a forecast of intermittent rains from Monday, however, areas like Vidarbha, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Konkan will receive heavy rainfall.

Earlier in August, Mumbaikars experienced torrential rains, and the report released in August stated that the monsoon this year, broke the previous record. In 1958, the Santacruz Observatory recorded 1,254 mm of rainfall. However, officials recorded 1,248 mm of rainfall in August 2020, which was only 6.3 mm short to break the record. However, reports state that the rainfall this year was more than 1,244 mm recorded in August 1983.

SkyMet released a report regarding the forecast and said, "Since last 3 days, on and off rain and thundershower activities are going on over Mumbai and suburbs. Intense shower occurred over Mumbai and suburbs on September 12, but Mumbai escaped waterlogging and flash flood. Today and tomorrow, i.e. on September 14 and 15, rain activities will remain light and patchy over Mumbai and suburbs. Moderate showers with few intense spells are anticipated between September 16 and 18 over Mumbai and suburbs.  A low-pressure area is over Andhra Pradesh coast and it will move in West-Northwest direction towards Maharashtra across Telangana. A cyclonic circulation is also seen over the North East Arabian Sea, south of Gujarat. The combination of these weather parameters will activate the monsoon surge over Konkan and Goa including Mumbai.  But, these weather activities will not be very heavy. There may be water logging in low lying areas but, there will not be much disruption to normal day to day life. The weather over Mumbai and suburbs will become comfortable and there will be relief from ongoing sultry weather conditions."
