The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Transport (NMMT) has presented its budget estimate for 2025-26. It includes revenue expectations, planned initiatives and financial support from various sources.
The total revenue and capital income, including the opening balance, is proposed to be INR 534 crore. After deducting the total revenue and capital expenditure of INR 533.90 crore from this, the budget is expected to have a closing balance of INR 9.40 lakh.
According to the budget, the revenue expenditure includes salaries and wages as per the 7th Pay Commission, maintenance of bus terminals, administrative buildings and electric buses, as well as fuel, auto-electrical materials and vehicle insurance.
The capital expenditure includes purchase of new buses, land acquisition for bus depots and terminals, construction and development of bus terminals, consultancy fees for development projects, machinery, mechanical and general equipment, furniture, computers and investments. A total of INR 91.40 crore has been allocated for this.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has planned to implement several major initiatives. The Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS) project is nearing completion.
Efforts are being made to enhance eco-friendly public transport services by increasing the use of sustainable fuel sources. Bus services will be expanded on high-revenue routes in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to generate more revenue.
The ‘Increase Passengers, Increase Revenue’ campaign will focus on increasing passenger numbers and increasing fuel efficiency to increase revenue. In 2024-25, NMMT introduced 72 electric (AC) buses and will soon add 28 more buses to the fleet.
The move is expected to reduce fuel costs, increase revenue and help control pollution. The commercial complex at Vashi Sector-9 Bus Terminal has been completed. It is expected to generate additional non-fare revenue.
Considering the operation of 92 existing buses and 50 new CNG buses, the expected revenue is INR 25.66 crore between April 2025 and March 2026.
Additional revenue is expected from passenger and student pass schemes, intermittent agreements, ticketless travel fines, advertisements on buses and bus stops. This will generate INR 20.95 crore. The Vashi Terminus development project is estimated to generate INR 32 crore.
