More than 5,000 COVID-19 cases reported in Ward K-East (Andheri East, Vile Parle East and Jogeshwari East)

Ward K-East has become one of the coronavirus hotspots in Mumbai. As of June 26, 2020, this ward had 5,097 COVID-19 cases.

The number of coronavirus cases in the city of Mumbai has been increasing exponentially. While there are certain areas which have shown a decrease in the cases, some wards in the northern part of Mumbai have seen a rise in the spread, over the last few weeks.

The Mumbai Municipal corporation on June 27, 2020, released a report which stated that the number of coronavirus cases in the city has reached 72,287, out of which 39,744 patients have been discharged and 4,170 seven deaths have been registered so far. Currently, Mumbai has 28,366 active cases of which 1,005 cases of critical. 

The report also showed that the number of cases in Ward K-East has crossed the 5000-mark. Ward K-Wast comprises of Andheri East, Vile Parle East and Jogeshwari East and the COVID-19 tally here has reached 5,097, out of which 2,489 cases are active and 2,295 cases have been discharged. Meanwhile, Ward K-West (Andheri West, Vile Parle West and Jogeshwari West) with 4,252 cases. 

The growth rate in Ward K-East (Andheri East, Vile Parle East and Jogeshwari East) is at 1.8 per cent, which is slightly higher than that of the average for Mumbai which stands at 1.76 per cent. 

As of June 26, Ward K-East (Andheri East, Vile Parle East and Jogeshwari East) has a total of 41 containment zones, where officials from the BMC have sealed slums and chawls. Besides this, 569 buildings have been sealed in these localities.

The current doubling rate of the ward is at 38 days, less than that of Mumbai, which is at 42 days.

As per the report, out of the 3,14,780 tests conducted in the city, 72,287 cases have been reported in Ward K-East. Out of the 28,366 active cases in the area, 17,135 cases are asymptomatic, 10.226 cases are symptomatic and 1,005 cases are critical.

Meanwhile, as a part of the 'Mission Begin Again' initiative, the state government has planned to allow some businesses to resume their services from June 30.
