Mumbaikars see wettest day in December with 91mm rainfall

Besides, the total rainfall recorded from October 1 to December 2 (non-monsoon months) at Santacruz observatory is 133.1 mm whereas Colaba observatory recorded cumulative rainfall of 160.2 mm during the same period.

In an unusual scenario, Mumbaikars witnessed unseasonal rains on the first two days of December. Due to this, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Santacruz observatory (which represents Mumbai suburbs) recorded 91 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours at 8:30 am Thursday, December 2.

Meanwhile, IMD's Colaba observatory (which represents south Mumbai) recorded a rainfall of 90 mm during the same period.

With this, it marks the city’s highest-ever single-day rainfall during December. Moreover, it has come to light that the rain recorded between Wednesday 8.30 am to Thursday 8.30 am has surpassed its previous record of December 2017 where 53.8 mm rain was recorded in a 24-hour period ending December 6, 2017.

Mumbai’s previous record stood at 53.8 mm of rain in 24 hours, on December 6, 2017, due to the passage of Cyclone Ockhi, close to the city coast.

Besides, the total rainfall recorded from October 1 to December 2 (non-monsoon months) at Santacruz observatory is 133.1 mm whereas Colaba observatory recorded cumulative rainfall of 160.2 mm during the same period.

As a result of light showers and cloudy conditions, the maximum temperature in the suburbs dropped to 26.4 degrees Celsius and 25.8 degrees Celsius on November 3. Whereas, the minimum temperature continued to drop further today, in the suburbs at 21.4 degrees Celsius, while south Mumbai recorded 22 degrees Celsius.

In the 24 hours till 8.30 am on Thursday, Kolhapur received 69 mm of rain, Mahabaleshwar 92 mm, Malegaon 55 mm, Nashik 63.8 mm, Pune 75.4 mm, Sangli 57.8 mm and Satara 92.5 mm. Dahanu received maximum rainfall of 114.4 mm in 24 hours.
