Tourism Minister Aditya Thackeray said that the BMC building has a prevalence in the history of Mumbai and is important to the city, as it is responsible for keeping Mumbai functional every day, all through the year.

In a recent decision taken by the government, the tourism department has planned to give visitors to learn and understand the history of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) building. The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) along with the BMC will be organising guidance heritage walks for the people who wish to learn about the structure and its past. 

Officials from both the associations signed an agreement in a recently held meeting. This meeting was attended by Tourism Minister and Guardian Minister of Suburban District Aaditya Thackeray, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar, Minister of State for Tourism Aditi Tatkare, BMC's Additional Commissioner Ashwini Bhide, MTDC Managing Director Ashutosh Salil, Deputy Mayor Adv. Suhas Wadkar, Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Chahal, Principal Secretary - Department of Tourism Valsa Nair-Singh and others concerned with the project.

Sharing the details Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray said that the BMC building has a prevalence in the history of Mumbai and is important to the city. On the other hand, the architecture of the building, its oil paintings and statues have a special significance and beauty, even today. Tourists interested in these aspects should visit the building and should learn and admire the same. Besides this, Mumbaikars should also learn about the structure as it is one of the oldest buildings in the city, and the one which is responsible for keeping Mumbai functional every day, all through the year.

Adding her thought, Mayor Kishori Pednekar said that the opportunity to work in a historically important municipal building has been invaluable. With this project, both tourists and Mumbaikars will leave fascinated with the knowledge and the importance, more so by understanding how the administration works.

Apart from this initiative, the tourism department, over the last few weeks, has been working hard to develop new opportunities for visitors in Mumbai and other parts of the state. Every year, Mumbai welcomes millions of tourists who visit places like the Gateway of India, Taj Mahal Palace hotel and many other locations. However, the city has much more to offer, and prospects are being developed for the same. 

Minister of State for Tourism Aditi Tatkare said that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was recently signed for the Heritage Walk of Wankhede Stadium, and the new projects will boost tourism in Mumbai, thereby adding memories for tourists in the city.
