Early Friday morning, a fire erupted on the second floor of the Oceanic Building in South Mumbai's Chira Bazaar, resulting in injuries to three men who fell while attempting to escape the blaze. Approximately 25 others, trapped within the building, were safely evacuated by the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) with no additional injuries reported. Senior MFB officials confirmed that the incident took place around 3:24 a.m. in the three-story building located on B J Marg near Thakur Dwar.
Cause of Fire Under Investigation
According to preliminary reports from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the fire started on the second floor, though the exact cause remains undetermined. An electrical short circuit is suspected to be a contributing factor, but further investigation is underway to confirm the cause. Fire officials arrived swiftly on the scene to contain the blaze and facilitate a smooth evacuation of the trapped residents.
Three Men Injured in Escape Attempt
Mumbai’s Chief Fire Officer, Ravindra Ambulgekar, reported that firefighters managed to evacuate between 25 and 30 individuals who had sought refuge on the terrace. While most were safely rescued, three men—identified as Kartik Majhi, 24, Uppal Mandal, 26, and Deependra Mandal, 19—sustained injuries after slipping on the stairs while attempting to descend from the back of the building. Fortunately, none of the men suffered burns, and they were discharged from the hospital shortly after treatment for minor injuries, according to a BMC official.

The third fire was reported at 7:35 p.m. in the Lodha Fiorenza building in Goregaon East, affecting only a single apartment on the 30th floor. Firefighters quickly extinguished it by 8:40 p.m. Later, at 7:54 p.m., a fire broke out in a cluster of scrap godowns along Mahakali Caves Road in MIDC, Andheri East. The blaze, which involved electric wiring and stored materials, was controlled by 11:38 p.m., according to fire officials. Despite the day’s multiple fire incidents, swift action by emergency responders prevented any serious casualties.
