The mega facility in Mulund for the patients suffering from the coronavirus has been operational, however, ICU beds have still not been made available. It has been fifteen days since the facility was inaugurated and currently has 28 COVID-19 patients suffering from mild to moderate symptoms.

As per sources, ICU beds will be made available in another month. Doctor Pradeep Anger has been deputed as the medical superintendent. According to a report by Mid-day, Anger speaking to the media stated that the staffers have been working to ramp up the facilities in order to cater to more patients. He also added that the idea was to shift the patients who were earlier in the BMC hospitals, which have now been converted to dedicated COVID-19 hospitals, to reduce the burden.

According to data shared by the BMC, 10,155 ordinary beds are available in the city, while the number of available ICU beds is only 213 and the number of available ventilators is only 111.

With the surge in the number of coronavirus cases in the city, several wards in areas across Mumbai, especially in North Mumbai, have seen a rapid increase in cases of coronavirus, pertaining to which officials have taken strict and important measures to contain the spread of the contagious disease.

The ward-wise growth rate of the new cases in Mumbai currently stands at 1.58 per cent as of July 8, 2020. However, ten wards in the city have an average growth rate higher than the overall average of Mumbai.

According to the report released by the BMC, areas in North Mumbai have the highest growth rate of COVID-19 cases. Data from July 6, 2020, for the last seven days, states that Ward-T (Mulund) has the highest growth rate with 3.4 per cent. All three areas in Ward R - North, Central and South (Dahisar, Borivali and Kandivali) are also the hotspots for coronavirus. Of these three, Ward R-Central (Borivali) has the highest growth rate of 3.2 per cent, followed by R-North (Dahisar) at 2.8 per cent and R-South (Kandivali) at 2.5 per cent. While P-North (Malad) is at 2.3 per cent.
