According to data released by the BMC, the patients suffering from the coronavirus in Borivali and Kandivali have been doubling in the shortest days.

From July 14 to July 21, the doubling rate in Borivali has been 32 days whereas in Kandivali it has been 35 days. As per the data, the total number of patients in Borivali on July 21 was 4,674, while the number of patients in Kandivali was 4,014.

However, the situation in Borivali has been improving. Last week, the doubling rate for the coronavirus patients in Borivali was 28 days whereas now it is 32 days. On similar lines, the number of coronavirus patients in Borivali on July 6 was 3,265, however, the number of coronavirus patients on July 13 increased to 3,889.

The BMC had earlier initiated mass screening and fever clinics to contain the spread of the coronavirus. Moreover, smart helmet screening was introduced through which more people can be examined in a short period of time. With this initiative maintaining social distancing protocols has also been made easier. This new-age high-tech 'smart helmet' visor has thermo-scan sensors which are touted to provide information about the temperature of passengers within a 7-metre radius.

Maharashtra, on Wednesday, July 22, recorded more than 10,000 cases of coronavirus in a day, propelling the state's novel coronavirus tally to 3,37,607 cases. At present, there are 1,36,980 active cases in the state. With 5,552 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 1,87,769.

So far, a total of 12,556 people have succumbed to COVID-19. Till now, 16,87,213 samples have been tested for the novel coronavirus in labs operational across Maharashtra. While 8,58,121 people have been under home quarantine, 44,975 others have been admitted to the institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 positivity rate, recovery rate, and fatality rate in Maharashtra stand at 20 per cent, 55.62 per cent, and 3.72 per cent respectively.
