35-year-old died after a wall collapsed in Mulund's Wayde Chawl

One person died in a wall collapse incident that was reported on Thursday evening, June 17, in Mulund.

Dilip Verma (35), the victim, was trapped under the wall's debris, a fire brigade official said.

According to reports, the 35-year-old man died after the compound wall of a house collapsed and he was trapped underneath, said a civic official. The incident took place around 7.30 pm at Wayde Chawl next to Pandurang school in Kalpadevi Pada on LBS Road.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade was deployed into operation as soon as the incident was reported. Later, he was rescued and taken to civic-run Agarwal hospital in Mulund, but the doctors declared him brought dead.

The officials said that the moment when the compound wall of an adjacent house came down crashing the deceased might have been standing there.

However, the actual cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained. Though officials attribute it to the monsoon rains.

The incident was labelled as L-1 by the MFB. According to local MLA Mihir Kotecha, the area where the incident took place is protected land for slum dwellers.

Moreover, in another incident on the same day, two persons, including a woman, were injured after a wall and a slab of an old residential structure collapsed in Pune city. The incident took place in the Khadakmal Ali area at around 6 pm when the slab and the wall of the old ‘wada’ (a cluster of houses) collapsed, reports suggested.
