A prepaid auto-rickshaw service will soon begin at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport’s Terminal 2. This service is designed to offer fixed fares, helping passengers avoid being overcharged or left midway through their journey.
As per the plan, counters will be set up at T2 to issue prepaid receipts. Booths are being built to manage the system. The airport is also working on areas for luggage and seating for passengers with disabilities.
The prepaid model is based on fare charts based on destination and is approved by the Regional Transport Office. These fare rates will be added to the latest software to avoid fare manipulation.
The move follows frequent complaints from passengers about high fares and improper drop-offs. The new auto service has received clearances from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority, the Maharashtra government, and other key agencies.
As per reports, transport minister Pratap Sarnaik has confirmed that all approvals are in place. The airport operator has been asked to carry out the plan. Mumbai International Airport Ltd will handle operations. The Mumbai traffic police will provide enforcement support.
An NGO called Happy to Help may also be involved in day-to-day management. Prepaid taxis are already available at the airport. The prepaid auto-rickshaw facility will offer a similar option for those who prefer to use autos.
