In a significant development, it has come to light that the strike of wet lease employees of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), have called off the strike, which was ongoing from the last week in Mumbai.

They announced this after intervention of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and a meeting with a delegation of protesters as most of the demands of these employees were accepted. CM Shinde held a meeting with BEST contract workers on Tuesday, August 8, in which their demands were discussed positively.

After this, in Azad Maidan, the contract workers of all the factories unitedly announced this within a short time. The contract workers’ strike began on August 2.

These demands of the employees were accepted:

  • The basic pay of the personnel will be INR 18,000.
  • Annual leave (CL/SL/PL) of workers will be increased
  • Free travel facility will be given
  • Workers should be given annual Diwali bonus
  • Workers will get weekly off
  • Employees should be given annual increment
